I’m the mama of a five-year-old who absolutely loves to look at books and have me read to her. It’s such an exciting time because she’s also starting to read a little on her own. So obviously, I knew when I decided to write this post that I would have some expert help.
I wanted to share our recommendations with all of you, so you have some ideas for fun books to read. I think this list is appropriate for both boys and girls and provides a variety, so there’s something that all little bookworms can enjoy.
Without further adieu, let’s get into it!
These guys are a classic and have been around forever. The characters are cute, the stories teach a lesson, and there are a TON of them to choose from. Many of them have religious references as well if that interests you.
Classic Disney Books (including Mickey and Minnie, Winnie the Pooh, etc.)
These Disney Books are favorites of pretty much everyone. If you don’t like Disney, we need to talk. We are big fans of Winnie the Pooh and the 5-Minute Winnie the Pooh Stories (5-Minute Stories) is one we go back to over and over again.
I remember reading these as a kid and thinking they were so hilarious. The stories of the lady who takes everything literally are wildly entertaining for young readers.
I kept these books from my childhood and I love them to this day. They are ideal to introduce your child to chapter books. (I know… what? no pictures?!) We like to read a chapter each night before bed. One of our current favorites is Superfudge.
We are currently reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the most famous of Mr. Dahl’s beloved stories, A few others include James and the Giant Peach and Matilda.
I hope you and your little ones find some great stories to enjoy together. Whether you’re 5 or 45, children’s stories are fun!
Happy Reading,
I’ve been starting to look at what books to read for my daughter and I loveee these suggestions, I will definitely look into the collection bundles, thank you for posting!
Fantastic list! My toddler is currently going through a Winnie the Pooh phase too.
I’ve just started to read Roald Dahl books with my 5 year old. They still interest me just as much as when I was a child! I’ll have to check out Amelia Bedelia – these books sound great! xxx
Great article! Thanks. As a new Granny I’m finding this very helpful.
